Dear Brothers and Sisters,
When I arrived at the parish in October of 2007 it was brought to my attention that the parish plant was in dire need of maintenance and repair. I immediately hired Deacon Jack Kenny to be the plant manager and under his guidance we have worked hard to bring the buildings up to code. All roofs have been placed, including the Church and the Kelly Gym. New HVAC systems have been installed for the Church and the School and we are now in the process of installing cameras to provide more security.
Now, it is time to turn our attention to the Church interior. As you may know the ceiling was covered in wall paper which over time has deteriorated and collapsed. The floor in the Church also needs to be replaced. This project has been an ongoing concern. The track lighting in the Church is old and antiquated and difficult to maintain. There are other concerns that need to be addressed as well.
Before embarking on an interior renovation the Diocese has requested that we assess our needs in light of the understanding of Art and Worship as set forth in the documents of the Second Vatican Council. With this in mind I have requested that Tony Varas, the director of liturgy for the Diocese of Metuchen, give a presentation to our parish this Tuesday evening, February 19th at 7pm in the Parish Hall. All are welcome to attend.
Tomorrow, Monday, February 18th is President’s Day. Mass in the Church is at 9 am and the Second Novena Mass at 7 pm. Enjoy the holiday.
In Christ,
Fr. Thomas
